Plan and Design of Compact City (No.1)
"The external world" is the world not subjectively articulated by humans, and "the environment" is the world to which significance has been assigned, that is, phenomenalized, through active "comparison of context." The existence itself is to be found wholly in speculation about significance. The temporal and spatial fields we face now-that is, "now - here" and "here - there"-to represent the whole of the intentionality of the "self," and embedded in those temporal and spatial fields are the means to transcend ways of existing and to alter existence. By contemplating the design of cities in terms of "time" and "space," I have identified the pivotal indicators of "sustainability," "accessibility," and "identity." Sustainability implies that the image of the infinity of space is defined by the difference between "the future" and "now." In addition, sustainability assigns significance to the temporality of "the future" and "now." Accessibility implies the ease (with spatial and temporal variations) of transcending ways of being the "self" to construct new ways of being. Identity implies existence within space and time, both of which have undergone significant differentiations.
